IntroductionBack to top
StartupBus came to Mexico in 2011, after a dramatic social media competition in which the country came out victorious. Since then, the Bus has gained a reputation as an exciting, high-stakes hackathon in which only the most talented and crazy Mexicans can participate. We are now preparing for our third edition of the competition, which promises to be even more grand and dramatic. This year, in Mexico, we are preparing to make history on the road to Austin.
So far, the plan is for the Mexico bus to depart from the western city of Guadalajara. This for many reasons, but mainly because it's becoming a tradition that each year, the bus departs from a different city. This will probably be the case, until cities within Mexico start having a Bus competition of their, just how it happens in the USA.
Plus, Guadalajara is another vibrant beating heart of Mexican culture, as it is the cradle where mariachi was born and it lies right in the core of the region where much of the world's tequila is produced. It makes a lot of sense for this year's Bus to begin its journey there.

After its departure from Guadalajara, the Bus will hit the road roughly for 7 hours before entering the limits of Mexico City, the country’s center of gravity. There will be a stop there, possibly in the headquarters of one of our sponsors. After that stop, the bus will continue on to the northern city of Monterrey, which in turn is another important technology hub in Mexico. Monterrey will be the final stop before rolling across the border and into the USA.
The International Border is one of Mexico’s biggest challenges, as the controls to cross tend to be strict, and a bus filled with intense and crazy people doesn’t really help. Fortunately, in the past we haven’t had any problems when crossing. We hope this year will be the same success story.
After crossing the Rio Grande, we will advance to San Antonio, where we will meet with the rest of the USA and Canada buspreneurs. We are gearing up for the great journey and looking forward to some legendary adventures come March 2014.
Mexico is ready for StartupBus.
